NIKE WHITE LABEL

Art Direction, Catalogue Design

Nike’s White Label series featured a limited range of authentic garments from the past, recreated from Nike’s own early 1980’s archival graphics.

Our brief was to produce a sales tool to showcase the range; one that would evoke nostalgia yet transcend the superficial retro appropriation commonly associated with excursions into the '80s. Working in collaboration with former advertising illustrator Geoff Cook, member of ’70s illustration collective Australian Graffiti, we produced a series of realistic pencil sketches that straddled the hyperrealism of late ’70s and early ’80s advertising. The resulting series of iconographic posters became objects of collector obsession and youth culture; a record of something finite and desirable.
